Part 2 - Is Your God Too Small?
Second Characteristic of YHWH - the all-powerful (omnipotent) God
Genesis 1:1 LSV In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,
In the first line of the Word of God, YHWH determines to inform us that He has the power of creation within His grasp. This is a single line of scripture that contains the most profound truth that only people of faith can process.
Hebrews 11:1 LSV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the proof of matters not being seen,
“…..the proof of matters not being seen” means that even though we were not present in the creation event, we know by faith that Genesis 1:1 is a profound truth and that not only was YHWH capable of such incomprehensible power, that He performed the event as written in Genesis 1.
For an unbeliever, there is nothing anyone can say to convince by argument that YHWH is the supreme creative power within our universe.
For a true believer, nothing can be said that can add to their understanding of the supreme creative power of YHWH.
YHWH’s omnipotent creative power applies not only to those things we sense but also to the spiritual realm of the unseen.
Psalms 82:1 LEB A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the divine assembly; he administers judgment in the midst of the gods.
YHWH also has omnipotent supreme power over His physical and spiritual Creation:
Genesis 7:17-24 LEB And the flood came forty days and forty nights upon the earth. And the waters increased, and lifted the ark, and it rose up from the earth. (18) And the waters prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth. And the ark went upon the surface of the waters. (19) And the waters prevailed overwhelmingly upon the earth, and they covered all the high mountains which were under the entire heaven. (20) The waters swelled fifteen cubits above the mountains, covering them. (21) And every living thing that moved on the earth perished—the birds, and the domesticated animals, and the wild animals, and everything that swarmed on the earth, and all humankind. (22) Everything in whose nostrils was the breath of life, among all that was on dry land, died. (23) And he blotted out every living thing upon the surface of the ground, from humankind, to animals, to creeping things, and to the birds of heaven; they were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained. (24) And the waters prevailed over the earth one hundred and fifty days.
Isaiah 7:14 LEB Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look! the virgin is with child and she is about to give birth to a son, and she shall call his name 'God with us.'
Matthew 1:18-23 LEB Now the birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. (19) So Joseph her husband, being righteous and not wanting to disgrace her, intended to divorce her secretly. (20) But as he was considering these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (21) And she will give birth to a son, and you will call his name 'Jesus,' because he will save his people from their sins." (22) Now all this happened in order that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying, (23) "Behold, the virgin will become pregnant and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
By faith, we know these things to be true.
Yet many “christians” today question these omnipotent creative actions of YHWH.
Darwinism has so infiltrated our Pastors and Teachers that they are largely afraid to teach Truth for fear of loss of parishioners, or worse, they do not believe by faith themselves. “The Science,” they say. Who created the physical relationships in heaven and earth that scientists investigate?
This is the state of our lukewarm Laodicean church today.
The omnipotence of YHWH is lost in lukewarmness.
Repent and believe. The end is near.
Your in-dwelt spiritual slave to Yeshua (Gal 2:20 KJV)
“The omnipotence of YHWH is lost in lukewarmness.” So good!!!
Laodicea, indeed, Geoffrey. Just where do people think the Universe came from? It did not just "happen", it was created. We worship the Scientist, not the Science. It is OK to ask questions and even to deal with skepticism, God can take questions. He does, however, know things we do not and we cannot "best" Him in anything at all. Humility is difficult for humans. However, WE did not create this world. The mercy of God continues to overwhelm me, that God would care enough about me, this sometimes ragged former Prodigal, who fell onto God's porch after 35 years of cynical and sorrowful wandering. I am SO grateful that the Creator has such love and mercy over all of us. We certainly need it. Thank you, Geoffrey, for this masterful piece.
